Right to Work (for Less) is WRONG for New Hampshire

Right to Work (for Less) is WRONG for New Hampshire

The House has passed HB 474, as amended. The Senate is now considering the bill. You can read the current version of it here.

Do we want our state government telling private businesses how to deal with their employees?

Does our Legislature care more about a national special interest group than our own day-to-day reality?

What type of jobs do we want in our economy?

House Finance Committee Approves "Budget"

attack on middle class and most-vulnerable New Hampshire residents

2011-03-24 BudgetHundreds of citizens -- including social services, advocacy and concerned citizens groups and middle class workers from labor such as firefighters, police officers, teachers, state workers, steel workers and trades union members – jammed the rooms, hallways and stairwells of the Legislative Office Building Thursday afternoon as the House Finance Committee voted on the proposed budget.

The impromptu protest was sparked by Rep. Neal Kurk’s late-night amendment to destroy collective bargaining for public employees. It was clear that union supporters will not take this attack on all middle class workers easily or quietly.

“Workers’ rights are human rights,” the crowd chanted from the halls. Supporters occupied the center of the Finance Committee work space and stood in every possible space along the walls, holding signs that included maps of “Newconsin.”

When the Finance Committee finally convened, they somewhat quickly debated, then sent the entire package to the full House for a vote on Thursday.

In recent public statements regarding the impending budget reductions at the College, President Kim has repeatedly stressed that the student body forms the core of the Dartmouth Community, and that the faculty are the single most important factor in maintaining our excellence in research and education.  These reasons are cited as justification for the apparent effort to leave these two communities largely untouched in the budget restructuring process
